Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple
(BusinessWeek) Apple Inc. on Monday sent out invitations to an event in San Francisco on Sept. 9, with a picture of a shadow person with an iPod dancing and the words, “It’s only rock and roll, but we like it.”
The company didn’t offer any further hint at what will be discussed, although bloggers and the media have been speculating about the event for weeks. The Beatles on Sept. 9 will release their entire catalog remastered, and The Beatles version of Rock Band will also come out.
Reports over the weekend said supplies of iPods were running low at retailers, indicating that new lines of the popular devices would be coming soon. Some of the features that have been speculated about in recent weeks include adding cameras to all iPods and giving the iPod nano a wider screen.
The event will be the company’s first since CEO Steve Jobs returned from medical leave after a liver transplant. Apple didn’t say if Jobs would attend.
(philly.com) Goofy videos weren’t on the minds of Len Kleinrock and his team at UCLA when they began tests 40 years ago on what would become the Internet. Neither was social networking, for that matter, nor were most of the other easy-to-use applications that have drawn more than a billion people online.
Instead, the researchers sought to create an open network for freely exchanging information, an openness that ultimately spurred the innovation that would later spawn the likes of YouTube, Facebook, and the World Wide Web.
Today, while the Internet is more widely available and faster than ever, artificial barriers threaten to constrict its growth.
A variety of factors are to blame. Spam and hacking attacks force network operators to erect security fire walls. Authoritarian regimes block access to many sites and services within their borders. And commercial considerations spur policies that can thwart rivals, particularly on mobile devices such as the iPhone.
What the Internet’s leading engineers are trying to avoid are barriers that are so burdensome that they squash emerging ideas before they can take hold.
Already, there is evidence of controls at workplaces and service providers slowing the uptake of file-sharing and collaboration tools. Video could be next if consumers shun higher-quality and longer clips for fear of incurring extra bandwidth fees.
If such barriers keep innovations from consumers, we may never know what we’re missing.

God Bless the birth of the Internet, what would we do without it???
(mailonline) While ex-boyfriend Chris Brown sweats it out over his controversial interview with Larry King, Rihanna looks as though she doesn’t have a care in the world.
The Umbrella singer appeared to be very much over her former lover, who was found guilty of brutally assaulting her earlier this year, and what better way to prove it than with a trip to a funfair?
Rhianna strapped herself into a Six Flags rollercoaster in California’s Magic Mountain – and enjoyed the ride.
The 21-year-old Barabadian appeared relaxed with friends in a black outfit and green headband.

I think this is the Superman ride ... I actually like this ride even tho I'm terrified of roller coasters!

Looks like RiRi is having a ball … Hmmm, do yout think Rihanna and Chris will ever get back together?

Omg, so I saw this commercial on t.v. recently about filing claims against YAZ due to the harmful side effects of using the pill. I freaked out because I am currently using the pill. Honestly, I have not felt any negative side effects from using it (3 months now) but I don’t want to take the risk in waiting for something to happen [knock on wood!] I did some research to see what this big lawsuit was about so that I was aware of the risks associated with taking YAZ. I’ve seen the commercial many times but they kind of breeze through the side effects, and try to play it off as “common side effects” as if it’s not that serious. Read below to see what I found out from http://yaz-side-effects-lawyer.com/index.html

YAZ Birth Control
YAZ SIDE EFFECTS
Evidence is growing that Yaz carries serious health risks. Yaz contains a synthetic type of progestin called drospirenone. According to the FDA, drospirenone can lead to hyperkalemia, a condition caused by excessive amounts of potassium in the blood, in high risk patients. This condition may result in potentially serious heart and health problems.
Women involved in Yaz lawsuits have claimed that they suffered from a variety of serious ailments. These include deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and stroke. Yaz has also allegedly been associated with heart attacks and deaths in young women.
YAZ MARKETING
Pregnancy prevention
The treatment of the emotional and physical symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).
In October 2008, the FDA issued a warning letter to Bayer over the content of two Yaz TV commercials the agency said were misleading. The commercial suggested women were saying “goodbye” to their symptoms and were now symptom-free because of YAZ.
In the second spot, women were heard and seen singing “We’re not gonna take it” and kicking, punching and pushing balloons labeled with the same type of symptoms, usually associated with PMS. The FDA said that the Bayer TV ads implied that Yaz was approved to treat the symptoms of PMS. Drug makers are legally prohibited from promoting unapproved uses of medications.
