Man Faces Manslaughter Trial in Texting Case: Wake Up Call for All You Driving Texters!

texting-while-driving2

During my daily dose of national news today, I found out this morning that a Southern California man accused of killing a pedestrian while driving and text messaging has been ordered to stand trial for gross vehicular manslaughter.

Superior Court Commissioner James Odriozola denied a defense motion Monday to lessen the charge to a misdemeanor after determining there was evidence the crash was caused by more than ordinary carelessness.

Authorities say Martin Kuehl struck and killed nanny Martha Ovalle as she walked in an Orange County crosswalk on Aug. 29, 2008.

Odriozola noted that Kuehl did not send or receive texts at the exact time of the crash but did have his cell phone in his hand and had been texting back and forth with a friend prior to the crash.

Kuehl could face up to nine years in prison if convicted.

Do you guys drive and text? Now be honest. If this man serves time for this, it should be a wake up call to everyone who does the same thing out there. I know I’ve been into “almost” accident situations before just looking at my phone alone. Thank God, no one was walking in front of me when it happened. Be careful, just call the person and talk to them through an ear piece. Or wait at a stop light to text someone back.

The Storyline Behind Fame Kills Tour

fame-kills-tour

There’s a little over a month to go before the highly-anticipated Kanye West/Lady GaGa tour begins in Phoenix. Folks have wondered how the odd combination would work on stage during “Fame Kills.” Leave it to GaGa to shed a bit of light on things…

“The storyline is that Kanye is on one end of the stage and I’m on the other, and the whole show, we are trying to get to where each other is,” she told The Canadian Press.

“I want something that he has, which is the fame, and he wants something that I have, which is home, and my humble beginnings. So, we battle each other throughout the entire performance to steal each other’s spaces. So, I’m essentially on a quest to kill Kanye West, to steal his fame.”

This sounds like it’s going to be a FANTASTIC show.  I haven’t gone to a concert in years, but this one is definitely going to be worth the money.  I just know ;)

Odd Couple of the Day: Al Sharpton and Lisa Raye!! Yes, Lisa Raye

I found out on YBF that the two have been confusingly spotted at a few events together like the NAACP Image Awards and Michael Jackson’s memorial services…

Gross!!

I didn’t believe it at first, but at the Congressional Black Caucus events the past weekend in DC–Mr. Sharpton was indeed coupled up with Lisa Raye as he brought her as his date to every event. In the above pic, they were boo’ed up at a Gala afterparty at Toscana West. And below, they were spotted at the Gala together with friends.

Wow, I don’t know how real this is, but obviously these two have been spotted together at public events and they are not denying any rumors thus far.  I don’t know WHY Lisa is dating Al.  Of course, relationships are not completely based on physical attraction, but they are from two different industries, there’s the age difference and the obvious difference between their “looks.”  Do you guys notice that in everyday life, there are plenty of beautiful/pretty women who are with unattractive men?  Yet, it is very rare to spot a handsome/fine man with an unattractive woman.  In many cases, women want to be in a relationship with a man with substance.  And in other cases, men want something pretty to look at … What are your thoughts?

First Lady, Mrs. O, Will Visit Sesame Street

Mrs. O Loves the Kids

Michelle Obama is heading back to Sesame Street to teach Big Bird, Ernie and friends how to plant vegetable seeds. She’ll appear on the show for the second time since she’s been in the White House, and will be the special guest for the first episode of the 40th season of the program.

The First Lady was so happy and uber excited about stopping by Sesame Street earlier this year to film a PSA — she said it was the best thing she’d gotten to do so far as First Lady.

It couldn’t be a better topic for Mrs. O to share with kids from all over the world, as she is all about gardening in real life. She recently started the White House’s first vegetable garden.

Michelle Obama’s Sesame Street episode will air November 10. Other celebs, like Cameron Diaz, Eva Longoria-Parker and Kobe Bryant, are scheduled to make appearances during the season as well.

Khloe and Lamar are not “Legally” Married – I Knew Something was Fishy!

*Sep 04 - 00:05*

I found out this morning that despite all the press surrounding this rushed marriage between Khloe and Lamar, TMZ reports that the couple are waiting to officially tie the knot until after they sign a prenup agreement.

Apparently they hired two successful family lawyers, Neal Hersh and Lisa Meyer, to iron out the details. Odom reportedly has a few conditions he wants agreed upon before he enters into anything legally binding (Ha! Smart Man). Negotiations began last Friday, and TMZ says they’re already “contentious.”

Once the prenup is signed, they’ll go through with a REAL wedding. Ok, so why did they rush to hold that wedding ceremony in Beverly Hills on Sunday? Hmmm, I’m guessing that $300k deal they struck with OK! Magazine may be ONE of the many reasons for this rushed wedding. Kardashians = $$$
