The Scoop on Oprah’s Star Studded Finale Show

There weren’t any free cars or any of Oprah’s favorite material things, but there were plenty of her favorite people.

The dual shows were a veritable who’s who of pop culture the likes of which Chicago hasn’t seen in a very long time. Appearing on stage throughout the night with the Queen of Talk: Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, Josh Groban, Patti LaBelle, Beyonce, Halle Berry, Queen Latifah, Katie Holmes and Rascal Flatts. And that was just the first show.

Part two brought Will Smith & Jada Pinkett Smith, Jamie Foxx, Stevie Wonder, Jerry Seinfeld, Simon Cowell, Rosie O’Donnell, Dr. Mehmet Oz, Dr Phil McGraw, Nate Berkus, Gayle King, Maya Angelou, Tyler Perry, Alicia Keys, Aretha Franklin, Usher and Maria Shriver.

One audience member named Alex from Winnipeg, Manitoba was called to the stage. From there, he called his gifriend on stage and proposed to her. She said yes and the crowd roared.

Oprah, too, turned on the water works. An especially moving moment was when she was joined on stage by the young men of Morehouse College. One man, who just earned his PHD, later told NBC Chicago that his life would not be the same had it not been for Oprah’s help with a scholarship a few years ago.

Besides a star-studded night of entertainers and high energy, audience members did walk away with something from the show: a free copy of O Magazine.

The shows will air May 23 and May 24. Winfrey’s last show airs May 25 after 25 years.

‘The Tree of Life’ Premiere

The concept of a tree of life as a many-branched tree illustrating the idea that all life on earth is related has been used in science, religion, philosophy, mythology, and other areas.

The Tree of Life is an upcoming 2011 American drama film featuring some surreal and sci-fi elements, written and directed by Terrence Malick, and starring Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Jessica Chastain. The film premiered at the 2011 64th Annual Cannes Film Festival on May 16th, 2011

Details of the plot is described as a 1950s period piece. An official synopsis was released at the 2010 American Film Market:

We trace the evolution of an eleven-year-old boy in the Midwest, Jack, one of three brothers. At first all seems marvelous to the child. He sees as his mother does with the eyes of his soul. She represents the way of love and mercy, where the father tries to teach his son the world’s way of putting oneself first. The picture darkens as he has his first glimpses of sickness, suffering and death. The world, once a thing of glory, becomes a labyrinth.

The story ends in hope, acknowledging the beauty and joy in all things, in the everyday and above all in the family—our first school—the only place that most of us learn the truth about the world and ourselves, or discover life’s single most important lesson, of unselfish love.

Lay your eyes on all the stars that stepped on the red carpet for the premiere last night!

Pooch Hall Models for Psyberian’s Winter 2011 Look Book

Actor Pooch Hall of BET’s “The Game” strikes a pose for Psyberian’s Winter 2011 Look Book. He was chosen to model their new line of jackets and leather water resistant “Jack Frost” boots. He also had the opportunity to speak with them about the new season of the Game and what other projects he has in the works:

Critics have said The Game has become more of a drama than a comedy—what’s your take?

The Game had already crossed over into the “dramedy” world while it was still on CW11. I think [the show's writer] Mara Brock Akil felt there were some serious, real-life issues and we needed to play them in a real way. Baby mama drama, love triangles, divorce, drug abuse, financial stress, etc. That being said, we would still try to find the humor in the whole scheme of things to give people hope and make light of everything.

Besides acting in The Game, what else do you have planned when it comes to your career?

“I’m looking forward to my big screen debut with the film Jumping The Broom starring Angela Bassett, Paula Patton, Meagan Good and Loretta Devine. I got into Hollywood to show my talents by playing other characters, and someday I want to be directing and producing. Right now I want to give life to as many characters as possible, starting with Jumping The Broom where I play Ricky, the best friend and best man to Laz Alonzo. The film will be out on Mother’s Day. With The Game‘s record breaking debut of 7.7 million viewers—the most in cable history—the industry has definitely taken notice of my talent. I’m so thankful to the fans for supporting me as well as the show.”

Who’s your favorite actor?

“Wow, that’s a tough one. There are countless actors who inspire and challenge me to be better. But I am waiting for the time when Denzel Washington and I get to go head to head.”

Georgia Mom Sues Tyra Banks

ATLANTA—A Georgia woman is suing Tyra Banks for $3 million after she said her 15-year-old daughter appeared without her permission on an episode of Banks’ talk show about teen sex addicts.

In a lawsuit filed Oct. 8 in federal court in Atlanta, Beverly McClendon claims the show contacted the teen on her cell phone after she responded to a request on the show’s website seeking “sex addicts.” The girl was then picked up from her home in Georgia in a limo and flown to New York, where she was put up in a hotel, all without her mother’s knowledge, the lawsuit says.

The lawsuit also names Warner Bros. Entertainment and the executive producers of the show as defendants.

McClendon says her daughter suffered damages because the 2009 show “was undoubtedly watched by sexual deviants, perverts and pedophiles.”

The lawsuit seeks a jury trial and asks for $1 million in compensatory damages and $2 million in punitive damages. It also asks the court to bar the episode from ever being aired again on television or online.

Warner Bros. Television Group spokesman Scott Rowe said Sunday that the company had no comment. Banks’ publicist, agent and lawyer did not immediately return calls Sunday seeking comment.

The show violated McClendon’s right to privacy by putting her daughter, who was a minor, on television without McClendon’s permission, the lawsuit claims.

The lawsuit also claims negligence, saying the teen was paid for her appearance but that the show didn’t get permission from the labor commissioner to employ her and didn’t get McClendon’s permission before paying the girl to fly to New York, stay in a hotel alone and appear on the show.

Who do you think was wrong in this situation? Tyra, for not obtaining  parental/guardian authorization from the minor? Or is the minor at fault for not telling her own mother?

Armless Pianist Wins ‘China’s Got Talent’

Next time you feel like calling in sick because of your allergies or your cramps, think about the pianist Liu Wei. The 23-year-old had both arms amputated after touching a high voltage wire while playing hide n’ seek with friends.

He was only 10 years old.

Wei didn’t throw in the towel – at age 18 he taught himself to play piano with his toes, says the LA Times.

On Sunday, he was nationally recognized after winning the popular “China’s Got Talent” for his version of James Blunt’s “You’re Beautiful.” He sang the song in English as his toes twinkled the keys.

When the three judges praised Wei and told him to keep pursuing his dreams, he said that he would, according to the LA Times. Then he added: “At least I have a pair of perfect legs.”

Rihanna as “Raikes”

Rihanna is already beginning to work on the set of her feature film debut in “Battleship.” Photos of the Barbadian songstress surfaced online yesterday showing a brunette Rihanna dressed in character.

Donning a traditional U.S. Navy getup with gloves and work boots, the singer was spotted in Hawaii on the set of the Peter Berg-directed science-fiction movie, wearing a nametag with the name “Raikes.” The board-game adaptation is the story of naval officers who use Earth’s ships to fight against alien intruders.

According to one of Rihanna’s latest tweets, the singer is scheduled to continue work in Hawaii for two weeks. “HAWAII…Hawaii…hawaii……who wouldn’t want to work here for 2 weeks,” she tweeted, along with a photo of her posing on a balcony.

Blake Lively is a Smooth Criminal

She is best known for her role as a spoiled young New York school girl on show ‘Gossip Girl’. But Blake Lively is about to change all that with her new film, The Town.

And the 23-year-old gave a sneak peek of what’s to come with a raunchy and very grown up photo shoot for Interview magazine to promote the upcoming release.

In the accompanying interview she talks to the film’s director and her co-star in the film, Ben Affleck, about their sex scene together.

‘The sex scene was really awkward’, Lively states regarding her on screen moment of passion with Affleck, who is 16-years her senior.

‘And it was my first day [of filming] so thanks for that,’ she joked.

Affleck claims she was ‘poised and comfortable during the scene but the young actress claims that her job involves a large amount of ‘acting confident’.

The Town: Lively stars alongside Affleck in the film about some Boston bank robbers

‘We stand on these red carpets and pose in these dresses, but we’re all only so confident,’ she said.

‘It doesn’t mean we think we’re great looking or anything. It’s all a façade.’

In the film, set in the Boston projects, Blake plays a 29-year old single mother who deals drugs to get by. Her ex-boyfriend (played by Affleck) is a bank robber wanted by the FBI.

‘I had to be brave because this role was terrifying. But it was all smoke and mirrors because I read the script and I didn’t know how I couldn’t do it. I loved this character so much. I was a little selfish in wanting to do it because I also thought, Well, maybe I’m not the best person for this, but I really want it.’

She claims her parents have always been supporting of her choice to become an actress.

‘I look at anything in life like as long as you do what you believe in, then it’s going to work out, because even if other people don’t like what you’re doing, you’re happy because you did what you believed in.’
