New Music: Teairra Mari – “U Did Dat”

Teairra Mari has seen success with her singles “Make Her Feel Good” and “Sponsor.” But problems with record labels and Internet leaks kept her from ever releasing a sophomore LP.  Her new track, “U Did Dat” is her giving it another try.

After releasing a slew of mixtapes and an EP throughout the past two years, Teairra left her place at Warner Brothers Records earlier in the year and decided to ink a deal with Rico Love’s Division 1 imprint. Rico worked with Teairra on her debut album, which was released through Roc-a-fella/Def Jam when she was 16, but this time they’ve cooked up something grown and sexy.

On the track, written by Rico, Teairra Mari seductively sings about meeting the guy who makes her forget about all the others. His skills cause temporary memory loss, and Teairra congratulates him with the chorus saying, “You did dat.”

“Just when I thought that no one could do it better, do it better, better, better, better than him.

They way you layin’ down ya sexy.

Allow me to stand corrected.

And just when I thought I’d be your friend forever, you made me forget about him.

I’m glad that I showed him the exit.

I swear boy.

You did dat.”

New Video: Big Sean f/ Nicki Minaj – “Dance (A$$)”

In his brand new video, Big Sean sits on his throne as the Fresh Prince of A$$, while Nicki Minaj shows that she’s the queen of it.

It’s definitely Hammer Time in the “Dance (A$$)” video, but instead of recreating MC Hammer’s infamous “Can’t Touch This” shots, Big Sean throws a party and pays homage to the opening sequence from “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air” (circular camera angles included).

We also get to enjoy a screen full of “ass” in several different languages, and a playful Nicki Minaj showing us how she likes to wind and shake her rump while covered in the British flag.

Go Stooopid!

Lola Monroe Signs with Wiz Khalifa

LoLa Monroe is officially Taylored. The video vixen-turned-rapper has announced her signing to Wiz Khalifa’s Taylor Gang label.

“We got it in with Taylor Gang. We Taylored now,” the 25-year-old femcee told Greg Street on Atlanta’s V-103.

She explained why she decided to sign with the “Black and Yellow” rapper.

“Wiz is like a positive free individual that’s about his business and that matches everything I’ve created on my side,” she said. “When he reached out, he was like, ‘I feel as though our movements represent the same thing, so I want you to rep Taylor Gang.’ And I agreed, so it’s only right. Plus, out of all the situations that came to me, my business instincts and just the comfort level, I felt it was just the right move with him. He’s a stand-up dude and it just felt right.”

LoLa, who was nominated for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist at this year’s BET Awards, is prepping her debut album and will drop a new single in November. “It’s gon’ be crazy.”

She is also working on two new mixtapes including Crown Ain’t Safe, hosted by DJ Ill Will.

New Video: Drake – ‘Headlines’

Drake’s “Headlines”, music video premiered on his blog yesterday.  It seems as though his entourage, has grown tremendously in size since the last LP. The OVOXO (October’s Very Own X The Weeknd) squad can be spotted throughout the video, leaving their mark on a building and also celebrating with Drizzy over a meal, cigar and wine.

Meanwhile, at first glance, you might think this kaleidoscope of a video was directed by Hype Williams, but Drake kept it in-house commissioning OVOXO’s own Lamar Taylor and Hyghly Alleyne to direct the clip.

His new album, Take Care hits stores October 24, which also marks Drake’s 25th Birthday.

New Music: Wale ft. Miguel – Lotus Flower Bomb

Wale is back as he slows it down and spits some game on “Lotus Flower Bomb,” a smooth offering featuring Miguel.

Women usually get ill at ease when it comes to one-liners, but Wale gets away with pulling off a few catchy phrases in ‘Lotus Flower Bomb’ without being too corny. He attempts to keeps it playful with pick up lines like, “You got that bomb. I’m tryna detonate you”, ‘Shorty, where your baton, racing through my mind’ and ‘can we take shots with your flavor’.

One thing is for sure, Wale is definitely warming the females up for the release of his sophomore LP Ambition due to drop November 1.

Will you be buying it?

Brandy Talks ‘Majors & Minors’ and Upcoming Album

Tonight, a very different kind of singing competition debuts on the reality tv stage . On “Majors & Minors,” 12 talented young performers get the chance to be mentored by some of the biggest and most established artists in music, including Leona Lewis, Jordin Sparks, Avril Lavigne, Sean Kingston, One Republic’s Ryan Tedder, Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson and will.i.am. The kids range in age kids ages 10-16, and though no one is ever voted off the series, one lucky kid will score a recording deal with RCA/Jive and be featured in a cross-country concert tour.

The series’ first mentor is Grammy-winner Brandy, and we were lucky enough to talk to the R&B songbird about the show and even got some early news on her buzzed-about upcoming album.

“I was blown away by the idea and they are celebrating kids and their art and their journey into becoming, you know, the artists they already are within, and it just took me back to my youth, 15-years-old trying to become a great artist and I immediately wanted to get involved,” Brandy told MTV News about the show. “When I met the kids I was just completely blown away, just really moved very deeply. And from there, I just wanted to stay as involved as I could because I wanted to be a part of their experience. I actually wanted to see them grow and how far they will go and how far they have come, so far, has been so amazing.”

New Music: Rihanna – We Found Love

Cue the dancing gays =)

In the first single off of her upcoming sixth album due in stores November 21, Rihanna sings about finding love in a hopeless place. The track, titled ‘We Found Love’, was produced by DJ Calvin Harris and follows the Euro-pop, techno, dance formula that DJ David Guetta assisted in making popular in the States over the past few years.

This is definitely different than what I expected from Rihanna but as we all know from her interviews, she gets bored quickly. She has evolved tremendously since her first reggae inspired album and she’s never been afraid to try something that may seem out of her realm.

New Music: J. Cole Ft. Jay-Z – ‘Mr. Nice Watch’

“Nobody owes me anything. Jay-Z doesn’t owe me a verse because I signed to him.”

Jay-z has been catching a lot of flack when it comes to Roc Nation signee J Cole over the past year. When fans weren’t questioning why it was taking so long for J Cole’s album to drop, they were questioning why the boss man himself hadn’t blessed J Cole with a verse on one of his records.

Just in time for the release of ‘Cole World: A Sideline Story’, which hits stores on September 27, Jay-z came through and handed in a verse for J Cole’s next single, ‘Mr. Nice Watch’.

I knew Jay was gonna be on [that song]. I knew he was going to do that. I knew as soon as we made it [like] ‘Watch Jay get on this. He was in L.A. and I got [there] that day around the VMAs or whatever. He actually pushed back the mastering, we went to mastering with no Jay-Z verse. I was like ‘oh okay cool, I guess he can’t do it.

“They were mastering the last song, and this is such a Jay-Z move, he called in and stopped the mastering and pushed it back like a week. Only he can do that.

Everything worked out, I’m a true believer that everything happens for a reason.
