The FACEBOOK MOVIE

Justin Timberlake and Jesse Eisenberg

Justin Timberlake and Jesse Eisenberg

It’s official: Jesse Eisenberg will play Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in “The Social Network,” a film based on the creation of the social networking site. But he’s not the only rumored name now confirmed to be in the film.

Variety reports that Justin Timberlake will also star in the flick alongside Eisenberg.

Timberlake will play Napster co-founder Sean Parker, who became Facebook’s founding president. Andrew Garfield has been cast as Eduardo Saverin, the Facebook co-founder who had a falling out with Zuckerberg as the site became a financial success. The crew, along with director David Fincher, will begin filming next month in Boston before moving production to Los Angeles.

One of the film’s executive producers, Kevin Spacey, spoke to MTV News recently about the flick, speculating that it would begin filming before the end of this year, although at that time the details, including who would be directing and starring in the movie, had yet to be worked out.

Spacey did note that he was “enormously excited” about the film. “Great story for people that don’t really know how it happened,” he said. “Very filmic, very modern, very cool.”

Girltalk 24/7: Wow, this is a first! A movie about the ever so popular social networking craze. I wonder what the story line is going to be about. Is it about Mark Zuckerberg’s life? Is it going to focus on social network users? Is it going to be about money/internet business? I actually think this movie has the potential to be AWESOME. Practically 75% of my friends/family are on facebook, therefore, so many people will be able to relate to the movie. If the movie does focus on the users of facebook or other social networks, it’ll be like watching a movie about yourself! I’m totally a facebook fan, don’t have a myspace though. I’m gonna sound like a nerd for saying this — but I’m excited for this movie!

New “Tags” for Facebook!

NEW YORK (AP)—Facebook will soon let users “tag” their friends in their posts, similar to how they already can with photos.

Product manager Andrew Huang said the status tags—coming over the next several weeks—are “all about engagement.” He said Facebook wants to let users reference their real-world connections in their status posts.

For example, if a status update mentions having lunch with a friend, the user can tag the post with that friend’s name. That’ll make it easier for someone to pull up all status posts mentioning that particular friend, regardless of who made the posts.

It’s similar to how someone can now easily pull up photos of a friend, regardless of which user had taken and shared the image. People will also be able to reference brands and businesses that have Facebook pages, as well as events, groups and applications.

To use the feature, users will have to type the “at” symbol in their post. This will activate a drop-down menu, from which users can select the friends to reference. The “at” symbol won’t appear in the post itself; only a link with the person’s name will show up.

Girltalk 24/7:  I think this feature is kind of cool … and it really benefits the “nosey” lol.  Am I right? Cuz if I mention in my status that: “Lisa is getting ready to go out tonight” and I tag all the girls that I am getting ready with, everyone I’m friends with knows just a little more about my life.  Not only can you update the world to what you’re doing and how you’re feeling, but you are allowing people to know who is involved in what you’re doing and how you feel.  I don’t see this as another attempt for Facebook to extract more personal info from peope since it is an OPTION to tag people in your posts.  I’m definitely going to use it, but NOT for EVERY thing.

Facebook is Being Sued!

Five Facebook users in California filed a civil lawsuit against the company on Monday, alleging that it violates privacy laws and misleads members.

The users say the social networking site is violating the state’s privacy laws and misleading members about how their personal information is used.

The lawsuit was filed in Orange County Superior Court and asks for damages and legal fees. The users have requested a jury trial.

A Facebook spokesman told Associated Press the company planned to fight the lawsuit.

The complaint alleges that Facebook violates California privacy and online privacy laws by disseminating personal information posted by users to third parties. The lawsuit also alleges that Facebook engages in data mining and harvesting without fully disclosing those practices to its members.

It was filed on behalf of several users, including a professional photographer, two children under 13, a user of the original Facebook and a Los Angeles-based actress and model.

Facebook, which has more than 200 million users, has been forced to defend several of its privacy policies.

So, I know a LOT of people who have privacy issues with Facebook.  Do you think Facebook will win this lawsuit?  Do you feel that your privacy has been invaded before by Facebook?
