What Do Hip-Hop Producers Look Like?

Kanye West with his mentor, No I.D.

Ever wonder what a producer looks like? Artists are the ones on TV, at award shows, etc. and soak in the spotlight but in many cases the producer behind their biggest hit would not even be recognized on the street. Sure, some of the game’s biggest producers also happen to be some of the game’s biggest stars (i.e. Kanye West, Dr. Dre, Timbaland), but there are many chart-topping producers that remain behind the scenes and out of the public spotlight.

Below are some producers of my favorite songs/aritists ….

Bangladesh, "A Millie" by Lil Wayne & "Lemonade" by Gucci Mane

Dot da Genius, "Day & Night" by Kid Cudi

Eric Hudson, producer for Neyo, Brandy & Trey Songz

Mick Schultz, "Birthday Sex" by Jerimih

I found an awesome post on Chicago Now which displays a slideshow of new and old hit-making producers. To view the slideshow, click here!

So I’m from the Chi and I know of so many local artists out here that are trying to make it big. There’s no doubt in my mind that Hot2Def aka Dat Boy Hot is going to be on your radio in a city near you =)

Drake and His Take on Older Women

Drake

Drake

In the remix to Fabolous’ “Put It in the Bag,” his verse was actually inspired by a previous relathionship he had with an older woman.

“I used to talk to this woman that was 35-plus,” Drake laughed. “I’m a mature individual.”

At the time, he was a barely 20-year-old upstart MC. Aside from simply enjoying dating a more experienced woman, Drake said he was drawn to her perspective — she framed the world much differently than he did at the time.

“It was kind of, like, what she saw in me,” the 22-year-old explained. “I say in the song, ‘She just wants that feeling back, I make her feel young again.’ We were doing things young people do, like just going swimming late at night. Just chilling, drinking, like kicking it, talking. But it was so intriguing for me. The appeal was obvious. I think I can also maybe even say I felt guilty to the fact that it was a bit of a story to tell, that’s why I was doing it. But I like older women, period. I never end up dating — seriously — women that are my age.”

The Lil Wayne protégé went on to add that more often than not he finds himself in relationships with women pushing 30. “Maybe it’s the way I carry myself,” he said.

As for that particular older woman?

“When I hear that song now on the radio, I just laugh,” Drake said. “I wonder if she ever hears it. I lost contact with her.”

It’s refreshing to know that Drake raps/sings about his real life experiences.  I like the fact that he likes older women because that usually means he is into women who are mature, know what they want and don’t play games.
